China: The Forbidden City is a 1998 Adventure-based, Point and Click, Puzzle and Single-payer video game created and published by Cryo Interactive Entertainment. It is an enjoyable puzzle game made for those players who love playing mystery-solving games. The story sets in 1775 in the Forbidden City where the player can control the protagonist who starts his journey to investigate the death of a chief, eunuch Wang. He retrieves a letter from the Empress dowager in which Wang reveals a conspiracy where he was forcedly implicated in the illegal copying of documents and imperial seals, part of the vast plot to kill and replace the emperor.
To unravel the story and expose the culprits, Wang has carefully dissimulated clues and confessions throughout different parts of the city, such as offices and Imperial Gardens. China: The Forbidden City features an encyclopedia mode and an interactive guide that made the game more interesting. During the play, the player interacts with items and non-player characters, collects objects, and tries to solve all the puzzles to progress.
