Worth1000 (now known as DesignCrowd) is a contest and image manipulation website that enables the audience to popularize their creativity. The site was launched on Jan 1, 2002, and since its opening, it has hosted more than 340,000 images created in theme contests like “Stupid Protest”, “Rejected Transformer”, and “Invisible World”. It also hosted identical contests for multimedia, photography, and creative writing.
The platform is highly prominent and has been featured by various publications, radio stations, and TV shows like Inside Edition, ABC’s, PC Magazine, BBC, Weekly World News, TechTV, USA Today, and Detroit Free Press, among others. The platform and its community have also produced three books on image manipulation. These are “More Than One Way to Skin a Cat”, “When Pancakes Go Bad”, and “I’ve Got a Human in My Throat”.
The competitions are composed of a series of themed contests. The contents include a subject title and a sample photo manipulation from the past or similar contest, along with a few lines describing the task of contestants. The contest examples include If Goths ruled, Reality manga, Chimaera, and Invisible world. There are also other examples like merging multiple movies to one, mating animals with plants or instruments, and zombifying or aging celebrities.
