Fping (open source) alternatives
Fping (open source) is a program to send ICMP echo probes (“pings”) to network hosts to check internet connectivity. It is different from the standard ping (8) is because it allows the user to specify multiple targets on the command line instead of sending one ping per line of input. It is especially useful for network debugging and performance measurement. It can determine if a host is up and responding.
It allows you to specify any number of hosts on the command line or specify a file containing the lists of hosts to check. It also does not have the silly restrictions on packet size and the number of probes that you get with the standard ping (1) command. In addition, it reports duplicate replies, which ping does not. It’s helpful to identify machines on an Ethernet or other types of network. If you are looking for a tool that can check internet connectivity in real-time, then it’s the perfect choice for you.
