Microsoft Active Directory alternatives
Active Directory (AD) is a directory service that developed for Microsoft Windows domain networks included in most Windows Server operating systems as a set of processes and services.
An AD domain controller authenticates and authorizes all users and computers in a Windows domain type network assigning and enforcing security policies for all computers and installing or updating software.
For example, when a user logs into a computer that is part of a Windows domain, Active Directory checks the entered password. It determines whether the user is a system administrator or a regular user. Most of the Windows services, a set of processes, and Windows Server operating systems are part of the Microsoft Active Directory.
Microsoft Active Directory itself uses the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to process users’ works. For the readers’ information, it is essential to point out here that Microsoft Active Directory is not the replacement for the registry.
