OpenSnitch alternatives
OpenSnitch is an open-source, easy-to-use GNU/Linux application firewall that allows you to strengthen the security of your system. Microsoft Windows is considered to be less secure than Linux, but this is no excuse for Linux users not to take further measures to boost the protection of their system. OpenSnitch is one of the firewalls that you can install on Linux to enjoy peace of mind. It is a Little Snitch port, which itself is a Mac OS application firewall.
The author of this tool is Simone Margaritelli, who also has another alias called “evilsocket”. The purpose of OpenSnitch is to track each and every request initiated by the installed applications. You can create rules to block/allow apps from accessing the Internet. Whenever an application that is disallowed from accessing the Internet attempts to do so, a dialog box appears, giving the end-user the ability to either accept or refuse the Connection. The tool comes with a simple and visually appealing GUI through which you can get all sorts of information such as the name of applications connected to the web, their IP address, used port, and name of the user who owns it.
