Giac/Xcas is a Computer Algebra System (CAS) compatible with multiple operating systems such as Unix/Linux, Microsoft Windows, and OS X. It is free to use and is called the Swiss knife for mathematics. It is a GUI equipped with various tools to help you with Programmation, computer algebra, spreadsheet and statistics, function graphs, and interactive geometry. You can also use it as an alternative/replacement for top-notch graphic calculators like netbooks.
Xcas is inspired by the FLTK graphic toolkit and has a basic alternative interface named “qcas”, which is based on QT. You can use Xcas in the browser without an internet connection to continue working. The slight disadvantage is that the offline version has fewer functionalities, whereas the benefit is that there is no need for installation. Giac, on the other hand, is a C++ library and is basically a CAS computing kernel. It is designed to work within other C++ programs as well as programs using JavaScript, Python, and Java.
Many software uses Giac as CAS Kernel like CAS Calc P11, Geogebra, Pocket CAS, and HP Prime Calculator. It also offers compatibility mode for those familiar with prominent solutions such as Mupad CAS or Maple, along with people accustomed to other TI calculators, including TI Nspire CAS, TI89, and Voyage 200. The general features of Giac/Xcas include 2-d geometry functions like tangents, point, intersection, segment, intersection, triangle, parametric curves, and more. For Spreadsheet, you can experiment with 1-d and 2-d statistics, absolute and relative references, and more.
