Cronopete alternatives
Cronopete is a handy backup utility designed to run on multiple Linux distributions, including Debian, Ubuntu, Arch Linux, and Fedora. It is basically a Linux clone of Time Machine, which itself is the backup utility developed exclusively by Apple for its Mac Operating System. It copies all the functionalities and behavior of Time Machine, delivering the best experience for those that don’t have a Mac.
The utility creates a copy of all the files present on the system and stores them on a separate hard drive, making it easy for you to recover them if the original file gets lost or damaged. Cronopete devises a scheme in which a copy created per hour will remain on the disk for the last 24 hours, whereas a copy formed in a day will be eligible for restoration for the last 15 days.
This high-profile feature gives the user the ability to decide which one to restore. It ensures less disk usage by storing unchanged files as hard links. Cronopete uses rsync to perform its backup tasks with high efficiency and accuracy. Lastly, it receives new updates every few months aimed at resolving existing issues and adding new features.
