Rsnapshot alternatives
Rsnapshot is a top-notch Rysnc-based filesystem snapshot tool that empowers you to capture snapshots of remote and local machines, possibly over ssh. It is optimized to require less disk space via the usage of hard links. You can get it working in a short time, but this is entirely dependent on your existing configuration. The best feature is that non-root users can restore any file they own, negating the need to ask root users for help.
There is no need to make changes to tapes, as the utility doesn’t have any, enabling backups to start automatically without human intervention. Rsnapshot eats less space on your disk by storing a fixed number of snapshots. The utility is coded in the Perl programming language and has been tried on several versions with zero issues resulting from all the tests.
