HSQLDB alternatives
HSQLDB is a relational database management system (RDBMS) written in Java and is built upon HyperSQL from Sybase. It is a pure Java database engine that conforms to the JDBC, JNDI, and Java Naming and Directory Interface standards. It has a small footprint of about 6 MB, runs on all platforms, requires only a Java 2 JRE or JDK, and has no additional libraries or native code. The tool is high performance and scalable so that it is suitable for deployment in applications ranging from small single-machine systems to large multi-machine systems, as well as supporting a wide variety of workloads.
HSQLDB embedded database can also be used as a library or as a stand-alone database server. The database engine supports embedded, server, and client-server operation modes. The database size is limited only by the amount of available memory and disk space, which makes it possible for HSQLDB to be used on mobile devices with flash memory and even on embedded systems that have only a few megabytes of available RAM and flash storage.
